DatZ1037: Automata Theory

Autumn 2020

Instructor: Dr. Abuzer Yakaryilmaz

The schedule and plans may be revised depending on the changes due to the pandemic.

The final exam: The final exam will be held at 12:00 on Friday, January 15, 2021. It will be a test on estudijas and each participant must present at MS Team meeting as well. The camera must be open throughout the exam, and the microphone should work whenever is asked. The test will be out of 35 points, and each question must be answered sequentially, i.e., one cannot go back to any previous question.

The test covers all topics we have studied during the semester. There will also be an online consultation hour on MS Teams at 12:00 on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

The final exam score will be replaced with one of the previous but lower score.

The second exam has been completed!

It will be an online verbal exam and taken individually. We will use zoom meetings. The details are listed below.

  • Each student will pick an available time session for his or her exam session. The sessions will be shared by sending messages from https://estudijas.lu.lv system.
  • Each session will be recorded. Both the camera and microphone from the student side should be on during the exam.
  • The student can either use only phone or both phone and computer. The latter option is recommended to record the meeting on the local computer.
  • The student should be able to show (i.e., by using phone camera or portable webcam) the environment in which the exam is taken. The reason behind this is to visually verify that there is not any notes or similar materials available to student to use for answering the questions.
  • 3 to 7 questions will be asked during the verbal exam. All topics covered during the classes and lab works are included. The exam will be out of 35 points.

Grading: We plan to have 3 or 4 exams during the semester. Your lab work will be counted as one exam. There will also be a final exam in January. You final grade will be calculated by the discarding your lowest score in the exams.
